Chapter Fourteen

Rose was spending the entire weekend with us. Not only that, she would be sleeping in my room.

I was still sore with her about the mall situation and the last thing I wanted to do was share my room.

“Why can’t she share a room with one of her sisters?” I’d asked Mom.

She gave me a look like she wanted to yell at me, but she didn’t. She was trying to be patient. “Because, Arden. You have the biggest room and a futon that one of you can sleep on.”

“Well maybe I don’t want to share my bedroom. Why does nobody bother to ask me things anymore?”

Mom slammed down the magazine she had been holding. Her patience had run out. “When you start paying bills in this house, then you can start making decisions like that. I don’t see what the problem is. You and Rose are the same age and you should get along fine. I expect you to make her feel welcome, Arden. This is hard enough for Rose as it is.”

This was hard for Rose? How did she think I felt?

I left the kitchen because I knew having a full blown fight with her right then wouldn’t have been good timing.
